One animation, or every video

In Claude Motion you describe an animation, Claude writes it as code, and you refine it by chat before exporting an MP4. Anthropic built it for explaining your own work, like turning a quarterly report into a 30-second explainer.

As a Claude Motion alternative, Shotstack makes video for products and workflows. Its motion graphics use the animation libraries motion designers use on the web and plays After Effects animations, in the same edit as your own footage, AI-generated video, a voiceover, music and captions. Change the data and render it again, once for every customer, listing or row.

Same script, two tools

Both videos use the same four-line script about why leafy streets are cooler.

Made with Claude Motion

Animated type and drawn shapes over a synthesised score.

Made with Shotstack

AI-generated footage, an AI voiceover, captions from the voice and AI music. Every line, shot and stat comes from data, so the next topic is just a new row.

Which should you use?

Choose Claude Motion if

  • Your team already works in Claude on a Team or Enterprise plan.
  • You need one short explainer of your own report, chart or walkthrough.
  • Animated type, shapes and charts are as far as the design goes.
  • It doesn't need a voiceover, footage or a different version for each viewer.

Choose Shotstack if

  • Video is part of your product, workflow or agent.
  • Each video carries different data: a name, a listing, a score, a price.
  • Your motion design is layered, morphing or built in After Effects.
  • You need footage, AI-generated clips, a voiceover, music or captions.
  • Your team uses ChatGPT, Cursor or another assistant as well as Claude.
  • The people watching don't have Claude accounts.

Already in Claude? Use Shotstack from there

Add Shotstack to Claude and ask for a video. Claude builds it, you preview it in the browser, and Shotstack renders it. It works the same way in ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and other assistants, so your videos don't depend on one of them. When the design is right, turn it into a template your app renders for every record, with no chat in the loop.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Claude Motion?
Claude Motion is an Anthropic feature that turns text, charts, shapes and images into short animations inside Claude. Claude writes each animation as code, you edit it by chat or in an editor, and you export it as an MP4. It is available on Claude Team and Enterprise plans.
Does Claude Motion have an API?
No. Claude Motion animations are made, edited and exported inside Claude. Shotstack has an API, so your own code, an AI agent or an automation tool can make the video, and the same design can be made again with new data.
Can Claude Motion add a voiceover, music or video footage?
Not the way a video needs. Claude Motion doesn't use a video generation model, so it can't create footage or people. It has no voiceover: its sound is a wordless synthesised score, and video clips you add play muted. Shotstack generates video clips, images, voiceovers in up to 32 languages and music from open and closed models, added as they launch, inside the same render as your motion graphics, and captions the voiceover automatically.
Can Claude Motion make complex motion graphics?
It suits explainers: animated type, shapes, charts and camera moves, which Claude writes by hand for each animation. Shotstack runs the animation libraries motion designers already use, plays After Effects animations, and layers the result over footage with transitions, voice and music.
Can I make personalised videos from a spreadsheet?
Partly. Claude Motion can use a spreadsheet you give Claude, but each video is its own animation, exported by hand from its page, so a video per row means repeating that for every row. With Shotstack you save the design once as a template with fields for your data, then render it for every row from the API, n8n, Make or Zapier.
Which plans include Claude Motion?
Claude Team and Enterprise, in beta. It isn't on the Free, Pro or Max plans, and animations count toward your plan's usage limits. Shotstack accounts start with 10 free credits for 30 days, then pay as you go from US$10 for 50 minutes of video.
Can I use Shotstack inside Claude or ChatGPT?
Yes. Add Shotstack as an MCP connector in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or another AI assistant and ask for a video. The assistant builds it, you preview it in the browser, and Shotstack renders it, including footage, voiceovers and generated media.
Is Shotstack better than Claude Motion?
They do different jobs. For one short explainer of your own work, made by a team already on Claude Team or Enterprise, Claude Motion is the quicker route. For video that your product, agent or workflow produces, with footage, voice or different data in each version, Shotstack is built for it.
